Spraying for Invasive Weeds

Each year the Simonton Lake Conservancy sprays for invasive weeds. Specific areas of the lake have been identified as having these invasive weeds. The company the Conservancy has contracted with is Aquatic Weed Control, a company owned by Jim Donahoe.

Spraying for Invasive weeds on Simonton Lake is done twice each year.

If the weed spraying is going to be harmful to your lawn you will get prior notice by U.S. Mail. And a yellow flag like the one below will be placed in your yard. You can see from the notice that the homeowner is warned not to use the sprinkling system for three days after the spraying. If you get a notice like this and have neighbors who have gone out of town and might not have gotten the mailed notice, texting or emailing them would be the neighborly thing to do.

When Aquatic Weed Control sprays specifically for Starry Stonewort, which is NOT harmful to your lawn, you will NOT get prior notice. But a yellow flag will be placed in your yard just so you know they have sprayed.

There was an issue in the summer of 2020 with the wrong date being placed on the notices. They are aware of this, and we hope will be more careful in future sprayings.

We will run this information periodically to remind you of the weed spraying protocol.
